Children’s Evening

We are now offering badger watches which are aimed specifically at groups of 10 or more children.

Age 7 upwards;

This is a general minimum age limit for badger watches as we find that many children younger than this are not able to keep still and quiet enough not to scare the badgers away, for up to an hour inside the hide. However, as many children find this difficult even over the age of 7, we ask you to use your judgement as to who you bring!

Live commentary;

Each session can be tailor-made to the group and extras can be included to suit:

Activity/Question sheets can be designed to cover various areas of the

curriculum, just let Anne know what you want at least three weeks

before your visit.

Our live commentary can be tailored to suit the age range of the group

and/or areas of the curriculum. Some comments made by previous

school groups are;

“I really enjoyed it and it was fun! I also learnt lots” (age 7)

“I learnt that the badgers live in a set. I enjoyed all of it.” (age 8)

“I enjoyed watching the badgers, especially the baby badgers. I learnt

what a badgers set looks like.” (age 71/2)

Clubs, Scouts, Guides etc

Activity/question sheets can be designed to cover your groups main area of interest for the visit. E.g. Badgers, mammals, birds, trees and plants, woodland management, conservation projects, farming, history, etcetera.  Our live commentary can be tailored to your areas of interest or include a bit of most things.

Birthday Partys

Question sheets about what you see and hear on a watch can be provided. These can be used in the form of a competition, please provide small prizes if you would like.

With parental permission, the birthday boy/girl may be able to come outside of the hide with Anne to put food out for the badgers before they come out above ground.

Small gifts priced from £3 upwards are available as a memento of your visit.

Please bring your birthday cake and allow time for candles and eating, preferably before the watch!

If you would like to bring your own picnic, there is always a field (with beautiful views) or a barn to eat it in.

Please allow enough extra time for this and let us know what time you will arrive.

We carry full public liability insurance for groups accompanied by the required number of responsible adults. Unfortunately we cannot take unaccompanied groups of children.

For more than 10 children, booked and paid for in full not less than 3 weeks before, we offer our usual 10% discount on the normal price (see ‘opening times and booking details’ page).
